Surviving The Big Ones

Step back into the good ol' days for a little while and walk with a young boy surviving "The Big Ones" and on into manhood
The Big Ones Were The Great Depression and WW II for everyone, and 1949 and marrige and 1952 and the Army for me.

IT WAS DIFFERENT

"Down In The Valley"

ne of the main differences were the prices. Another
was the selections. Where now you can go to Super
Wal-Mart or Super K-Mart and eat a meal, buy your
groceries, buy your meats, buy some hardware, some
clothes and house wares. Back then you had to go to
a different store for each category.

sometime called, a butcher shop, to buy your meat
and poultry. A few grocers had a meat market inside
their store, but it was often located in a space that
was leased to a butcher.

store once a month, usually for staples, as most country
people grew and preserved their own food. City people
tended to go once a week, mostly on Saturday as it was
payday for most.
